Take the Mystery Out of God's Commands.

By: Pastor Tony
How close are God’s Commands to You?
Scripture: Deuteronomy 30:11, 14-15,19
“For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil…I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life…”

Observation:
The background for this passage is that the children of Israel are getting ready to go in and possess the Promised Land. Moses, God’s servant and leader of Israel, was not allowed to go into the land so Joshua was placed in charge of leading God’s people into the land. His instructions were to keep His commandments and to always be faithful to Him. He warns them of what would happen for any disobedience and presents them with a choice to make. God has made following Him very simple to understand. The mystery is taken away and understanding is placed within each of us.

Application:
Just as the children of Israel was presented with a choice to make, so each of us, on a daily basis, have to make the choice to follow God. His commands are not hard to understand. In fact, they are very clear. The problem come when there is a clash of the wills. God’s will vs. our will! The idea of submission to us seems to rub us the wrong way. We like to have our own way. Just like the children of Israel, the choices we make have consequences. The simple solution: Obey God. It’s not hard once you realize that He loves us and desires what is good for us. So! Make the right choice. You know what it is. This week try to make the choices that you know will please God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please help me to make the right choices so that my life will bring You honor and glory. Forgive me when I try to do things my own way. Thank you for your forgiveness. Amen!
