Do you celebrate the success of others?
Scripture: Philippians 1:1-11
V. 6—“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ…”
Observation:
Unlike many today, the Apostle Paul actually encouraged and prayed for the success of others. He was not threatened by the success of someone else, in fact it was what he desired.  He was hopeful that those to whom he had preached the Gospel message would be encouraged and go on to be successful in advancing the Gospel themselves.  His understanding of who Jesus Christ is caused him to be completely confident that it was only God that could cause or prevent success.  So his confidence didn’t lie in the performance or talents and gifts of men but rather in the God that he worshipped.
I wonder if we, as God’s people do that.  You know hope and pray for the success of other believers, or do we become jealous and envious of their success.
Application:
As Paul looked at the believers in Philippi, he saw an answer to prayer.  His faith in Jesus Christ helped him to look at the Spirit working in and through these believers.  God was at work and Paul was glad.  So too, should we be when we see God at work in other believers.  We should not view their success with envy or jealousy but rather, thanksgiving for a God who is constantly at work redeeming people from the clutches of hell.  Simply put, rejoice in the success of others.  Be happy for them!
Try to understand that all success is God’s doing.
Prayer:
Dear Lord and Father, please help me to be excited when others have success, knowing that only you can give the increase when it comes to the Gospel. In Jesus name, Amen!
